Welcome to our High Performance Training Academy: Powered by Under Armour. We are pleased to offer a full and dynamic way of teaching the game of basketball. You will be provided the tools necessary to learn the game, play it at a recreational or high performance level and have fun while doing it.
All training sessions in our Training Academy are referred to as Progressions. Each Progression is designed to help players become not only better skilled basketball players, but also help in their development of basketball IQ, reading of space and reacting to what the defense is doing - commonly referred to as read & react. If you are a player looking to learn the fundamentals or take your game to the next level (Provincial, NCAA, USports, CCAA), or a parent wanting to have your son or daughter develop and learn the game in a competitive, fun and safe environment, then this type of training is for you.
Each player will go through the progressions with each session building on the previous. During on-court instruction, players will be taught the meaning of "whole, part, whole" and be put through Phases:
3. In-Game Situation/Implementation
As the player continues with the program, they will gain confidence in themselves, their athletic ability and ultimately their game. From U12 right up to U18, every player will learn various aspects about basketball, that translates to increased skills development and overall team play contribution(s). Players will also have online film study sessions with coaches once per week. This aids in development and learning.
Players have the option for Elite Private 1 on 1 Training or Group Training (register here: https://formbasketball.com/registration-%26-waiver)
Note: players who enroll in our High Performance Training Academy, are not required to play on the F.O.R.M. travel teams. However, we highly recommend that players do so for continuity and skills development purposes.
Prior to the start of any training session, each player is mandated to do their homework/school work. We emphasize to every player the term student-athlete (they are a student first and athlete second). Player's that partake in our Elite 1 on 1 Private training must also maintain a certain cumulative GPA as outlined in the player contract. (Given the current nature of COVID-19, players can meet with their respective training Coach via Zoom for "Virtual Study Hall")
Progression 1 focuses on speed, endurance, explosiveness and footwork (through track and hill training); followed by mental acuity exercises (Eg: game situations, issues in sport, etc.).
Progression 2 focuses on strength & conditioning, weight training, explosiveness, etc. Provided in partnership with Saltus Athletic Academy (https://www.saltusperformance.ca/youth-high-performance/)
Progression 3 focuses on fundamentals of shooting, read/react and ball-screen usage as a shooter, dribble hand-offs (DHO) as a shooter and much more; followed by mental acuity exercises and mental toughness drills/exercises.
Progression 4 focuses on fundamentals of dribbling, various crossover moves, be able to read/react to defenders and finishing moves at the rim, defensive stance, positioning and agility and much more; followed by mental acuity exercises and mental toughness drills/exercises.
